Your own handwriting on your computer!

This is just awesome. Ran across this site on one of my aimless wanderings around the Internet.

Fontifier lets you use your own handwriting for the text you write on your computer. It turns a scanned sample of your handwriting into a handwriting font that you can use in your word processor or graphics program, just like regular fonts such as Helvetica.

Not something I would want to try given the adverse reviews my handwriting has gotten over the years. Talking of bad handwriting, American (at least the students I taught) have a writing so bad that mine got compliments. As a rule, girls seemed to write better than guys, whatever the reason might be for that. After a week or two of grading, I could predict if it was a guy or a girl who had written something, but by the same token my writing and almost any Indian's writing was mistaken for a girl's by my American friends.

American schools don't really teach penmanship anymore. Girls must pay more attention and practice more during the short period when the kids learn cursive. Catholic schools used to be really good at teaching it. When I went from Catholic grade school to a public high school my teachers praised my handwriting and told me they could always tell when they had a student who'd come out of parochial school. But for some reason over the years my handwriting has deteriorated and is now practically unreadable. Despite this I'm excited about Fontifier and I'm going to use it to annoy my family and friends.
